Whale Alert. In the crypto ecosystem, whales are important players, as whales sometimes hold a significant share of the supply in circulation, so they can have an impact on the cryptocurrency market when they decide to sell. Recently, a Bitcoin whale made a transaction after 13 years of inactivity.
On August 29, Whale Alert, a whale surveillance platform, identified a massive movement of funds on the Bitcoin network. An address that had not moved since 2012 transferred 80 BTC, or about 8.8 million dollars, to new addresses.
This address had accumulated a total of 479 BTCs, valued at more than USD 52 million at current prices, but had not made significant transactions for more than a decade. And this movement is not an isolated case, with several Bitcoin whales in recent months that have begun to move their funds, sometimes after years of dormancy.
What impact on the market?
For example, on August 29, another whale deposited 2,000 BTC, worth more than USD 216 million, on the Hyperliquid Exchange to exchange them for Ethereum. Earlier in August, another whale had moved about 670 BTC to open long positions on Ethereum, while another woman transferred 3,000 BTC after 10 years of hodling.
Obviously, when whales wake up, it can create market sales pressure. Investors often fear that these entities will begin to collect their gains, which could lower the price of Bitcoin. However, some experts believe that the sale by the large holders has rather helped to prevent even greater price fluctuations.
Indeed, the selling pressure of large holders (whales) acts as a brake: by gradually selling, they prevent the price from rushing up or falling too sharply. Their presence, therefore, stabilizes the market by absorbing some of the natural volatility.
Bitcoin is currently trading below 110,000 dollars, after falling by more than 2 per cent in the last 24 hours. Cryptocurrency has fallen by nearly 12% since its historic peak of USD 124,128 last month. Is this whale trying to enjoy the last few weeks at over 100,000? Or does it anticipate a bullish movement?
